Learn These Computer Shortcut Keys
"I'm glad I know computer shortcut keys!"
Computer shortcut keys are extremely useful if you know how to use them properly. It’s amazing that most people do not take advantage of them. It’s understandable that some might find it confusing because it sounds like you need to know a lot about technology but the truth is that it’s not. Basically, if you’re familiar with using a keyboard then you’ll know how to set these up. I’m not going to list the steps involved because it is different with every system basically. What you’re going to find is that it doesn’t matter between a laptop and a desktop but it does for the operating systems.
So for example you can’t use the shortcuts from Windows XP if you’re using 7 on your machine. Even though the keyboard might look the same it’s not the case. For example, Sibelius, Logitech, and Serato all make a keyboard that looks like the Tarantula type, but they’re very different. So let’s say that you want to get the one that’s best suited for quickly using Final Cut Pro. You’d want to make sure that all your shortcuts are built with that program’s user in mind. On the other hand, if you’re primarily working with Adobe Premiere Pro, you might want to use a different one.
It goes without saying that the same is true for Finale Note Pad, MS Word, Sound Forge, and Avid Media Composer. Now don’t think you have to go run out and buy each and every single one of these. No, you don’t have to worry about that. You just have to make sure that whatever is not working you’ll take back. Remember, function is key here. It’s not that bad to get a replacement, especially since most people that get frustrated end up throwing something at their monitor screen. Then you have a much bigger problem on your hands.
Also, keep in mind that you don’t always have to use the ALT button. Sometimes there are fantastic shortcuts that you can use the F keys for. It’s all about knowing your keypad. You can even disable sticky keys if you want. So just mess around with it a while. Move them from here to there until you find the types that you’re happiest with. As for cubase commands, that is a more advanced technique. I would not personally worry about that right now, as you have enough on your plate.
